First of all the size of the guitar is very important for your child if it's to big they will not be able to play it. Remember children have small hands and fingers and if the neck is to big they wont be able to get their fingers in the right place and the guitar will be put to one side never to be played again and you will have waisted your money.

The ideal size for a 4-6 year old child would be a 1/4 sized guitar. These are sutible for children 3ft 3inches – 3ft 9inches tall.

It's not worth spending a lot of money on these guitars and to be honest we have looked for 1/4 guitars and none of them are made of solid wood they all seem to be laminate, but to start your child off this will be fine.

The price range for these guitars are between $50 – $90 USD, so for a first guitar these are quite good prices. As your child grows and gets better then it would be worth investing in a better guitar.

Always look for guitars for this age group with nylon strings as they are much kinder to small fingers.
